A benefit worth bringing to the table.
Catastrophic claims account for over 30% of total medical spend, and they typically come from just 1.2% of covered employees. A screening CT can identify many of these conditions early, when treatment costs far less. The result is fewer catastrophic claims, which protects both your premiums and your self-funded claims budget.
What you are already dealing with.
Three figures that shape most benefits conversations right now, published by organizations with no stake in this exam.
Cancer, four years running
The Business Group on Health’s 2026 survey puts cancer as the top driver of employer healthcare cost for the fourth consecutive year: 58% of employers rank it first, 88% put it in their top three.
Per employee
Mercer’s 2026 figure for total health benefit cost per employee, on a 6.5% trend — the steepest sustained run in more than a decade.
Catastrophic claims
Stop-loss claims above $1 million have risen 61% in four years, which is what makes a single diagnosis a budget event rather than a line item.
The listed statistics describe industry healthcare cost trends. They do not represent that this screening exam reduces employer healthcare costs.

What to expect.
15 min visit12 s scan48 h at the quickest
One CT scan covering the chest, abdomen, and pelvis along with an included heart scan that generates not only the universally used Agatston score, but the Harrison Unified Coronary Calcium Score as well. The full visit runs about 15 minutes and the scan itself takes about 12 seconds. No IV, no contrast, and non claustrophobic.
The board-certified, radiologist reviewed full body report and heart report are both delivered to the employee and their listed physician in as little as 48 hours.
Eligible reports can be sent to Moffitt Cancer Center for review on request, at no additional cost. For employers who continue to offer Smart Scan year after year, annual comparative studies against each employee’s prior scan are included.
Questions employers ask.
Does this replace a mammogram or a colonoscopy?
A mammogram and colonoscopy are still the preferred method of detecting breast and colorectal cancer and should stay on your calendar.
What happens when the scan finds something?
Further testing determines what a finding is. A CT scan can identify an unusual growth but confirming what it is requires follow up testing. Smart Scan always refers diagnostic care to the employee’s listed PCP.
How do employees book?
Over the phone with our team. An employee calls, we confirm the details and schedule them at whichever partner center suits them.
What does it cost the organization?
A no-breakage model: you pay only for the employees who complete their scan. You can also offer it fully voluntary, at no cost to the employer.
Is Smart Scan HIPAA compliant?
Yes. An employee’s report, images, findings and calcium score never reach the employer — not on request, not in summary, not by exception. What an employer does receive.
Does it interact with our health plan?
No. It runs alongside the plan rather than through it, and it is billed per scan actually performed. How it would run.
How is it treated for tax?
That depends on how you fund it, and it is a question for your own advisers. What we can tell you.
Ask us for the details.
Tell us roughly what you are working with and we will send you what you need to take this to whoever decides.
No minimum · no-breakage model — pay only for completed scans · voluntary for employees · results never reach the employer.
