CT Scanning is a relatively new screening tool using computer tomography to identify potential problems and diseases before symptoms actually appear. This tool can prevent guessing or numerous unneeded tests and time waiting for a diagnosis, as well as be a baseline on your annual physical.

So, what can the scan actually reveal?

Smart Scan scan provide a “snapshot” of the body’s anatomy, giving your doctor a clear and detailed look inside your body without the need to order dozens of other tests. The Full Body CT scan analyzes three major areas of the body: the lungs, the heart, and the abdomen/pelvis. Three major areas where cancer and other silent killers lurk. The Lung CT scan can detect early, and yes, potentially malignant nodules. In the heart, Smart Scan, Full Body CT Scan can detect aortic aneurysms and calcium deposits within plaque in the coronary arteries that can lead to heart attacks. In the abdomen/pelvis area, the Full Body CT scan can identify kidney stones and some cysts, large abdominal masses,
enlarged lymph nodes, abdominal aneurysms, an enlarged spleen, a fatty liver, limited masses, and large pelvic masses, among other things. We have even seen melanoma on the Full Body CT scan.

For those who are high-risk individuals, the proposed benefit of having a FBCT Scan by Smart Scan lies completely in the potential of early detection and early treatment. By educating yourself, you need to weigh the benefits against any potential risks of having a FBCT scan. Take into consideration your individual circumstances, including risk factors and family history. High risk factors may include:

  • An individual or family history of coronary artery disease
  • An individual or family history of abdominal aneurysm
  • Being 40 years old or older
  • Smoking at least on pack of cigarettes a day for at least 10 years regardless if you no longer smoke
  • History of high cholesterol, diabetes, or high blood pressure
  • Being overweight
  • An inactive lifestyle
  • Concerns about abdominal and/or pelvic disease

Now it is time to make an informed decision
